Epic unbelievable…tonight
Rose and I…one last gasp
and then walking…pulling a beer from the bag
came Margaret…”Hey, got another beer?”
Joel’s party…the people…the girls played
karma turned so hard all the moments became grist
Margaret and Nettie from Eureka
dropped in like some karmic thunderclap
Husband with lost dreams
face tired welfare mother
under the thumb of an unhappy macho biker
I told her to leave him and gave her a can of chili
Six dollars and some freeway directions
unbelievable…Unbelievable
I was the instrument on the very day
when I was in such pain
The highway will swallow them and my can of chili
and all I have are Nettie’s drawings…
and her mother’s look as if I’d given her
the way to life abundant…as if I…
agony of two live wounds touched…and gone
who can know the wheels…
who can know….
