Flying into Canada
over a highway going east…

I remember another time
on an adventure to the Okenogan
with a blond woman
of simple German values
sincere and far away
the woman
the miles and time.

Always the same, Vancouver:
the long absence,
the memories fading….

And then I come again
and I am deluged
with a thousand reasons
why I want to live here.

This is a city
in which to meditate
to let the rivers
just run.

Murray Craig

Numbed by the force of another
my centering nearly washed away
by an outpouring of ideas,
power and optimism
from a man who is peaking
in his business and his life.

He knows ministers and senators,
he’s built a dream,
he’s bought a new house,
and his father
started an airline.

I walked away from him
with my eyes unfocused
into the same sunlight and faces
I had strolled through
with such impunity yesterday
trying to remind myself
that my dreams are not his.
