Such an easy day…
Love showed me the way
the easy loving and eyes
the skin we touched, the sun warmed
she’s opening up to me
past roles and sex
and our love making is so much more for it.

Magic day… it drifted amid smiles
and touches … as it would
the morning’s bed, the beach’s sand
the holding, the ease… new found
of our company
it get better day by day

luminous brown eyes … clear like pools of peace … sometimes
she’s so unused to being free with another
her eyes swim and shimmer with doubt until she remembers
that its OK to just look and be
We touch for hours … eyes and hands and feelings
until we’re no longer separate
quiet then, we say nothing…
because every part of us knows what we’ve shared
I told her a day like this, occasionally,
makes all the rest easier…and she smiled, ‘yes’
and warmed my skin.

         Party days...running together...wine and friends
day after day the hours give way to our next plans
Kathleen and Mike and Elmer and Joel and Richard...mixing
The chief chemists...the speech I gave...the party after
Kathleen bombed and all of us smiling
The next day, so unbelievably removed from our lives
we laughed the hours...loved the sun...and kissed our smiles
between our life passages we find such peace, rarely

Mike came from Sacramento for the weekend
an old friend...good friend...he shared my hours and my house
and listened to my life's whispering as I turned it pages
and Elmer, in from Reno...1st time in a year
Mike and Elmer and I...drinking beer all night, easy friends
         the beach...the movies...the restaurants
the love making...the conversation Kathy and I had
when we were so tired as we rambled and wrestled
with more than we could hope to grasp at our best
         such pleasant pain.
