Reflection on Rose

She’s so competant at being a real person
that you just don’t notice
that you don’t have anything
in common with her.

Bravo, I say, and with love.

Why is it that our stories of the future
and our heros (sometimes)
represent a sane future
while we, here, cannot wakeup
and make it so.

Some debts need to be cleared
tonight I looked at some poems
that I’d missed in Rose’s poetry compilation
from a few years back.

And I found the first one I ever wrote about her
and the last one that ended and summed us.
And I felt all those years between
when the moonlite crossed Chris’ face in 86.

Now she’s married and pregnant and we’re easy friends
and I want to give her these things
to say ‘thank you, bless you, Rose.’
the best to you, whom I loved so long.
