How I love the sounds of Vancouver
German voices, Russian, French.
Faces from all over the world
in this city-park
on the edge of the Northwestern
continent.

Expo – 86

That against all the insanity
some people struggle still
to give us better visions
that we might direct our will.

That voices still sound, calling
against the manic muted roar
reminds me, in my slumber,
that I can choose once more
the values of a loving spirit
and not the dogs of war.

That I can find a child’s wonderment
and not the material whore.

Close your eyes
and feel the breeze in your hair.

Listen to the car tires passing
and feel the sun press you there.

Listen to the wind’s passing
and the silent spaces between.

You could be setting on a mountain side in Canada,
or in an industrial park in California,
a beach in Singapore
or a desert in Asia.

With your eyes closed
it could all be the same.
